Künker sale 386, lot 5200

This specimen was lot 5200 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €410 (about US$530 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg II. 1727-1760. 2/3 Taler (24 Mariengroschen) 1731, Zellerfeld. Min. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich +. (electorate of Hannover, George II, 1727-60, two-thirds thaler of 1731, Zellerfeld mint. Planchet defects, choice extremely fine.)"

This "wild man" gulden was struck 1730-43 and is a slightly better type. It is marked both "2/3" (thaler) and "24" (mariengroschen) but has the weight of 4/9 thaler. Other gulden for 1731 included KM 226 (bust obverse), KM 227 (leaping stallion reverse) and KM 228 (leaping stallion reverse).
