Hannover 1732-IAB 1/6 thaler

Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 41371

This specimen was lot 41371 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 1/6 Taler, 1732-IAB. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS AU-58. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1727-60 and is common. It was equal to six mariengroschen, a denomination last coined in 1715. Another one-sixth thaler was struck in 1732 with St. Andrew on the reverse (KM 221) and a one-sixth thaler with a leaping stallion reverse (KM 220).
