Congreso Americano (1813) real
The first specimen was lot 11153 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $489. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence American Congress. Real, ND (1813). Lightly toned. VERY FINE." The second specimen was lot 70221 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[2] noted, "MEXICO. American Congress. War of Independence. Real, ND (1813). Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, Fine Details. KM-216 var. (Legend). A variant with the legend reading "AUCTORI D" instead of "AUCTORI J". A circulated but intact and appealing example of this SCARCE insurgent issue. Quite legible and clear, especially around the legends. The surfaces are toned to a dusty gray with minor encrustations noted on one side." Another scarce little issue from the War of Independence, issued by the bullion-strapped American Congress as it fled pursuing royalist soldiers.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
Specification: cast silver.
