Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70216
SB1123-70216r.jpg

This specimen was lot 70216 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Supreme National Congress. War of Independence. Real, 1813. Ferdinand VII. PCGS EF-45. An impressively well-produced example of this insurgent silver issue. The legends are legible in their near-entirety, lacking only a section on the eagle side due to the planchet shape. The central devices appear with uncommon boldness and clarity for this often hastily-struck type. Much brilliance remains in the fields, moderated slightly by attractive gray tone with slightly deeper coloration in the protected areas. A charming survivor that will certainly inspire strong bids from discerning collectors." This type is known for 1812-13 along with a half real (KM 210), 2 reales (KM 212), 4 reales (KM 214) and eight reales.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-211; Cal-693.
