Mexico 1813-T 8 reales
This specimen was lot 44190 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $11,400. The catalog description[1] noted,
"A Tremendously Rare Insurgent Issue, MEXICO. War of Independence. Supreme National Congress. 8 Reales, 1813-T So Mo. Tlalpujahua Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details. This silver 8 Reales displays a solid strike that yields much stronger central detail than typically found on this VERY RARE crudely-produced issue. Much of the peripheral legends retain legibility, including such important features as the date, king's name, mintmark, and denomination. Some flatness of strike and planchet imperfections are noted but constrained to the rims. There is evidence of cleaning, but the coin has taken on a beautiful cabinet tone that obscures this fact and makes the design elements stand out even more boldly. This piece is destined to become a highlight within any advanced collection of the complex coinage of the Mexican War of Independence. From the S.P. Rutherford Collection."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.896 fine silver.
