Künker sale 293, lot 570

This specimen was lot 570 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €6,750 (about US$9,098 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM Ludwig Rudolf, 1731-1735, seit 1714 in Blankenburg. Reichstaler 1735, Braunschweig. Von größter Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Louis Rudolf, 1731-35, thaler of 1735, Brunswick mint. Very rare, handsome patina, extremely fine.)"

This thaler is one of a number of commemoratives (Dav-2138 thru -2144) issued on the occasion of the death of the duke Ludwig Rudolf and his immediate successor, Ferdinand Ulbrecht II. All are scarce to rare.
