Künker sale 386, lot 5063

This specimen was lot 5063 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,326 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Ferdinand Albrecht II. 1735. Reichstaler 1735, Zellerfeld. Von großer Seltenheit. Herrliche Patina, min. Prägeschwäche, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Elbeshausen, Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 68, Dortmund 2014, Nr. 477. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Ferdinand Albrecht II, 1735, thaler of 1735, Zellerfeld mint. Extremely rare, superb patina, slightly weakly struck, very fine to extremely fine.)"

Ferdinand Albrecht's brief reign allowed little time for the production of coins and his thalers (Dav-2142, Dav-2143, Dav-2144) are all rare, some extremely so.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 29.00 g.

Catalog reference: KM 880, Dav-2142; Welter 2674.
