Künker sale 386, lot 5066

This specimen was lot 5066 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,551 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Ferdinand Albrecht II. 1735. 24 Mariengroschen 1735, Zellerfeld. Von großer Seltenheit. Sehr schön. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Ferdinand Albrecht II, 1735, 24 mariengroschen of 1735, Zellerfeld mint. Extremely rare, very fine.)"

Ferdinand Albrecht's brief reign allowed little time for the production of coins and this gulden is scarce, tho less so than his thalers. A "wild man" gulden (KM 869) also bears his name.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 13.03 g, the weight of 4/9 thaler.

Catalog reference: KM 868, Dav-358; Welter 2677. 2676.
