Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73226

This specimen was lot 73226 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. Taler, 1665. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: crossed keys and HS. August "the Younger". PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Lightly cleaned and with some minor marks to the right of the wildman, but also nevertheless very lightly handled and pleasingly toned. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1662-67 and is somewhat scarce. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel is famous for its long series of wild man thalers.
