Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1665/1655-HS 3 thaler Dav-LS80
This specimen was lot 4130 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €4,400 (about US$6,053 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
(duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, August the Younger, 1635-66, triple thaler of 1665, Zellerfeld mint, without value, a mule of a 1665 obverse and a 1655 reverse. Very rare, fine patina, slightly weakly struck, hairlines, very fine to extremely fine.)"
All the triple thalers of 1665 were struck from this muling of dies. A similar thing was done for the quadruple thaler (Dav-LS68). The reverse die was likely borrowed from this issue.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver; this specimen 85,26 g.
