Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1665 thaler Dav-6354
This specimen was lot 3564 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,133 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM August der Jüngere, 1635-1666. Reichstaler 1665, Zellerfeld. RR Feine Patina, sehr schön +. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Augustus the Younger, 1635-66, thaler of 1665, Zellerfeld mint. Very rare, fine patina, very fine or better.)"
This type, with the laureate and draped bust of the duke, is a change from the parade of wild man thalers from this state. It was struck 1664-65 and is very scarce.
