Bohemia 1621 120 kreuzer KM-266
This specimen was lot 4717 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,513 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand II., 1592-1618-1637. Kippertaler (120 Kreuzer) 1621, Prag. Münzmeister Benedikt Huebmer. Feine Patina, sehr schön +. Aus der Sammlung Kommerzialrat Dr. Herbert Wenzel, Wien. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II, 1618-37, kipper thaler of 1621, Prague mint. Fine patina, very fine or better.)"
This type was struck at Prague 1620-21 and at Kuttenberg (KM 305.1) 1621-22. Altho nominally a thaler, it is too light and is probably debased as well, being an inflationary issue (1620-24) of the Thirty Years War, along with six, 15, 24, 30, 48, 60, 75, 150 and 300 groschen. Once the kipper period was over, there was a concerted effort to recall and melt down the debased issues, accounting for their rarity today.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 24.76 g, silver, 41 mm diameter, this specimen 24,96 g.
