Sincona sale 57, lot 3154

This specimen was lot 3154 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$214 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Ferdinand II. 1618-1637. Kipper-Taler zu 150 Kreuzer 1622, Kuttenberg. Fast sehr schön. Korrodiert. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II, 1618-37, kipper thaler of 150 kreuzer of 1622, Kuttenberg mint. About very fine, Corroded.)"

This type was struck in Prague (KM 308), Kuttenberg (KM 309, shown here) and Joachimsthal (KM 310) during 1621-23. As a kipper issue, it was lightweight and debased.

Specification: 25.3 g, 0.321 fine silver, 42 mm diameter, this specimen 23.54 g.
