The first specimen was lot 29350 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand II Kippertaler of 150 Kreuzer 1622-(I) MS62 NGC, Prague mint. Massive in scale, this low-grade silver crown displays highly-attractive, champagne-toned surfaces that still contain a surprising amount of original mint bloom considering its age. Virtually nonexistent in high grade, this piece features the collared bust of Ferdinand II and crowned imperial eagle with some softness in the legends and slight doubling of the devices--diagnostics which are fairly common to the type. Altogether, this current example was obviously well cared for, making it a conditional rarity worthy of a strong premium." The second specimen was lot 42329 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[2] noted, "BOHEMIA. 150 Kreuzer, 1622. Prague Mint. Ferdinand II (1620-37). NGC MS-62. Somewhat crudely produced, but undoubtedly Mint State, with strong luster and minimal handling appearing over the surfaces." Altho this is commonly nicknamed a "kipperthaler," it lacks the silver of a true thaler, being an inflationary issue (1620-24) of the Thirty Years War, along with six, 15, 24, 30, 60, 75, 120 and 300 groschen. Similar coins were minted at Kuttenberg (KM 309) and Joachimsthal (KM 310).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver or billon.

Catalog reference: KM 308.
