Künker sale 335, lot 4649
Ensisheim in upper Alsace. The political situation is of 1477, on the collapse of the Burgundians. Upper Alsace would be ruled by the Hapsburgs until 1648 when it passed to France.

This specimen was lot 4649 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €750 (about US$982 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH. Ferdinand II. 1592-1618-1637. Reichstaler 1621, Ensisheim. R Feine Patina, vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II, 1618-37, thaler of 1621, Ensisheim mint. Scarce, fine patina, extremely fine.)"

This Austrian thaler was minted at the Ensisheim mint in Alsace. It is a scarcer type but not rare. Other Alsatian thalers include Dav-3169, -3170, -3345, -3346 for 1621.
