The first specimen was lot 2000 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,800 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Heiliges Romisch Reich, Erzherzog Ferdinand II. 1564-1595. Doppeltaler o. J. Hall. Brustbild mit Reihermütze. Gutes sehr schön. Hübsche Patina. (Holy Roman Empire, Austria, archduke Ferdinand II, 1564-95, undated double thaler, Hall mint, bust in fur cap. Good very fine, Attractive patina.)"

The second specimen was lot 33389 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $3,480. The catalog description[1] noted, "Austria: Archduke Ferdinand 2 Taler ND (1564-1595) AU55 NGC, Hall mint. Bust of Archduke Ferdinand to the left, wearing plumed shako and collar of the Golden Fleece / Tyrolean Eagle with Imperial Eagle Shield on its breast. 57.08 grams. Thick planchet, bearing full-defined devices, graced by slate toning with dark, still lustrous, crevices. Ex. Stack's (April 2008, Lot 198)." Davenport notes a considerable number of thalers and multiple thalers struck for the archduke, Dav-8088 thru Dav-8103, all without dates. This type is noted as a posthumous pattern, so we have attributed it to the year 1595. Künker states that it was struck circa 1601-04.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, the first specimen 57.50 g, the second specimen 57.08 g.
