The first specimen was lot 3646 in Goldberg sale 90 (Los Angeles, January 2016), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Mexico. 2 ½ Pesos, 1889-Mo M. Eagle. Reverse: Value within wreath. Bold strike. NGC graded MS-64 Prooflike." The second specimen was lot 21210 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[2] noted, "MEXICO. 2 1/2 Pesos, 1889-MoM. NGC MS-61. Reported mintage of 240. Prooflike fields with a sensational strike. Has the look of a much higher graded piece without magnification." The type is also recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Hermosillo and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The series, never popular, ended in 1893.
