Ponterio sale 159, lot 9207

Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Mexico City is scarce for the mint, all being the 1882/1 overdate. This specimen was lot 9207 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $747.50. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Mexico City. 50 Centavos, 1882/1-MoM. Scarce date. Nice strike, light attractive toning. NGC MS-63.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 2,000.
