Ponterio sale 155, lot 6191

This specimen was lot 6191 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $690. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Alamos. 8 Reales, 1870-DL. RARE in this grade. Ex: Joe Bleiden Collection. One small planchet flaw. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED." The Alamos mint struck eight reales 1864-95. Many of the early dates are rare but the 1870-A is the first affordable date tho not common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
