This specimen was of lot 24434 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 10 Pesos 1894 As-L, MS63 NGC. Prooflike fields, with bold definition and moderate contact marks. A much scarcer mint, especially so in this condition." This specimen is one of a series struck at the Alamos mint 1874-95. Although production was substantial, Alamos remains a rare mint, priced about double Mexico City, Culiacan or Zacatecas. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.
