Dunigan and Parker[1] state that this date is "very scarce, but slightly more available than the 1828." All coinage of the Estado de Mexico mint, which operated 1828-1830, is scarce and expensive. The second specimen was lot 6276 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $4,887.50. The catalog description[2] noted, "MEXICO. Estado De Mexico. 8 Reales, 1829-LF. Exceptional Estado De Mexico 8 Reales DP-EoMo02 (plate coin). Ex: Superior Auction, June 1998 (J.B. Parker Collection), lot #3263, where it realized $4,400. Ex: Richard Long sale, November 2004, lot #354, where it realized $6,000. Another truly exceptional example from this mint. A few tiny edge nicks, slightly warped planchet, dipped. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 377.5, DP-EoMo02.
