Like most fifty centavos, high grade specimens are extremely rare. This specimen was lot 9146 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $1,495. Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Chihuahua is scarce; it is priced triple that of a common Guanajuato issue. Like most fifty centavos, high grade specimens are extremely rare. This specimen was lot 9146 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $1,495. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Chihuahua. 50 Centavos, 1887-CaM. Rare grade for this mint. Sharply struck. NGC MS-61.”
