Sedwick sale 8, lot 284

This specimen was lot 284 in Sedwick sale 8 (Winter Park, FL, October 2010), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Mexico City, Mexico, 2-1/2 pesos, 1887M, low mintage. Lustrous Mint State, slightly crude rims (as made)."

The type is also recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Hermosillo and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The series, never popular, ended in 1893.

Recorded mintage: 400.

Specification: 4.23 g, 0.875 fine gold, .119 troy oz AGW, this specimen 4.2 g.
