This specimen was lot 71231 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Consulate. 2 Francs, Year 12-I (1803/4). Limoges Mint. Napoleon (as First Consul). PCGS VF-35. A wholesome overall survivor from the transitional year when Napoleon became emperor, this example displays even wear across both sides. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Hirsch in 1970 for $64). Ex: Gerhard Hirsch (12/1970) Lot # 1014." Year 12 (1803-04) represents the first year all the silver and gold denominations appeared. This type was struck year 12 only and the Paris mint product is moderately common; the others are all scarce to very rare.

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.

Catalog reference: F.250/6, KM-657.6; Gad-494.
