This specimen was lot 799 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,455 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, als Georg I. König von Großbritannien, 1714-1727. Reichstaler 1727, Clausthal, auf seinen Tod. Feine Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz Am 3. Juni 1727 trat Georg eine Reise von London nach Hannover an. Er erreichte Delden am 9. Juni. Am nächsten Morgen wollte er weiter nach Osnabrück, in der Gegend von Ibbenbüren erlitt er jedoch einen Schlaganfall und starb am 12. Juni im Schloß Osnabrück. (Germany, electorate of Hannover, George as king of Great Britain, 1714-27, thaler of 1727, Clausthal mint, on his death. Fine patina, extremely fine to uncirculated. On June 3, 1727 George went on a journey from London to Hannover. He reached Delden on 9 June. The next morning he wanted to continue to Osnabrück, however, in the area of Ibbenbüren he suffered a stroke and died on 12 June at the Castle Osnabrück)"
The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866. This type was accompanied by a half thaler (KM 183).
Recorded mintage: unknown but somewhat scarce.
