This specimen was lot 72288 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1848-Do CM. Durango Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details Gold Shield. Despite the minor cleaning, this lightly handled example remains a solid overall representation of the type with pleasing color." The Durango mint struck eight reales 1824-95 and this date is scarce. The SCWC notes an 1848/7 overdate as well as mintmaster RM. This is the most available variety for the date.
