Jean Elsen sale 124, lot 1055

This specimen was lot 1055 in Jean Elsen sale 124 (Brussels, March 2015), where it sold for €260 (about US$324 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Louis XVIII, première restauration (1814-1815), AV 20 francs, 1815 W, Lille. Griffe. presque Très Beau. (France, Louis XVIII, first restoration (1814-15), gold twenty francs of 1815, Lille mint. Scratch, almost very fine.)"

This is a slightly better date of a type struck 1814-15 for the first restoration of Louis XVIII.

Recorded mintage: 134,556.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, 21 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier.
