Sincona sale 83, lot 5206

This specimen was lot 5206 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,071 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND, 10 Rappen 1851 BB, Strassburg. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. NGC MS66. Prachtexemplar. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar (Very rare in this condition, Cabinet piece, Finest certified by NGC)." This type was struck 1850-51 and 1871-76. In 1879, the Helvetia head was adopted and the alloy converted to copper-nickel.

Recorded mintage: 4,530,000, a better date but not rare.

Specification: 2.37 g, billon, 21 mm diameter.
