This specimen was lot 5577 in Sincona sale 35 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$356 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Confederation, 1/2 Franken 1851. Fast FDC. (Swiss confederation, half franc of 1851. About uncirculated.)"
This type was struck at the Paris mint 1850-51. This specimen is struck to the standard of the French fifty centimes of 1806-64. One, two and five francs were also issued. Despite the large mintage, it is scarce.
Recorded mintage: 4,500,000 for 1850-51.
Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen: 2.49 g.
