UBS sale 84, lot 2223

This specimen was lot 2223 in UBS sale 84 (Basel, January 2010). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Eidgenossenschaft. 2 Franken 1850. 9,99 g. Prachtvolles FDC mit spiegelglänzenden Flächen" (Switzerland, Confederation, 2 francs of 1850. Gem uncirculated with mirror surfaces).

This type was struck 1850 and 1857 only. A similar type (KM 10a, 0.800 fine) was issued 1860-63. It was superseded in 1874 by the familiar standing Helvetia type. All are expensive in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 2,500,000.

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, .289 troy oz ASW, this specimen: 9.99 grams.
