UBS sale 84, lot 2230

This specimen is lot 2230 in UBS sale 84 (Basel, January 2010). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Eidgenossenschaft. 2 Franken 1857. Äusserst selten. Nur 622 Exemplare geprägt. Prachtvoller Erstabschlag. FDC (Switzerland, Confederation, 2 francs of 1857. Extremely rare, with only 622 examples struck. Uncirculated)."

This type was struck 1850 and 1857 only. A similar type (KM 10a, 0.800 fine) was issued 1860-63. It was superseded in 1874 by the familiar standing Helvetia type. All are expensive in nice condition but this is the key date.
