This type was struck at the Paris mint 1850-51. This specimen is struck to the standard of the French fifty centimes of 1806-64. One, two and five francs were also issued. Despite the large mintage, it is scarce. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins.
Recorded mintage: 4,500,000 for 1850-51.
Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, .072 troy oz ASW, 18.2 mm diameter, reeded edge.
