This specimen was lot 3913 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,235 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"5 Rappen 1851. Selten. Fast FDC. Kl. Kratzer (Switzerland, five rappen of 1851, rare, choice uncirculated, small scratches.)"
This type was minted 1850-51 in Strasbourg, France, as the Helvetic Confederation was being organized. It is accompanied by billon ten and twenty rappen. Despite the large mintage, it is a rare date. It was later minted in Bern 1872-77 before being converted to copper-nickel in 1879.
