Spain 1615-S V 4 reales
This specimen was lot 8251 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Cob 4 Reales, 1615-S V. Seville Mint. Philip III. NGC AU-58. Pop: 1, none graded finer by NGC. A sharply detailed strike with partially visible assayer letter and bold, full date on the reverse periphery. The surfaces are problem-free and toned a gentle light gray." This cob was issued from Seville 1601-04 and 1610-21. Assayers B, D and V are all recorded for 1615. Similar cobs were produced at Madrid, Valladolid, Toledo and Segovia. Segovia also issued milled 4 reales.
