Stack's Bowers October 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 73360

This specimen was lot 73360 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Cob 4 Reales, 1612-S D. Seville Mint. Philip III. PCGS VF-35. From the Richard August Collection." The SCWC lists this type for 1599-1604, 1610-21. Assayers B, D and V are recorded for 1612. The assayer initial on this example is badly doubled and may actually be a "B". Similar four reales cobs were also struck at Toledo, Valladolid, Granada, Segovia and Madrid.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date for the type.
