Aureo y Calicó sale 447, lot 1165

This specimen was lot 1165 in Aureo y Calicó sale 447 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 300 € (about US$392 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1614. Felipe III. Toledo. 4 reales. No assayer. All data perfect. Rare. MBC [very fine]. Ex Aureo 04/25/2007, no. 1191." The SCWC lists assayers C and V for this date but apparently the assayer was left off this die. This type was struck at Toledo in 1602 and 1609-21. It is common in low grade. Other mints for 1614 include Granada, Madrid, Segovia, Seville and Valladolid. The Segovia mint had screw presses; the other mints hammered cobs.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.73 g, 0.931 fine silver, c. 30 mm diameter, this specimen 13.54 g.

Catalog reference: Cayón unlisted, KM 33.5, AC-843.
