Jean Elsen sale 137, lot 866

This specimen was lot 866 in Jean Elsen sale 137 (Brussels, June 2018), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ESPAGNE, Philippe III (1598-1621), AV 2 escudos, 1614, Séville. D/ Ecu couronné. A g., S/V. R/ Croix potencée dans un quadrilobe cantonné de quatre annelets. Rare. Très Beau. (Spain, Philip III, 1598-1621, gold two escudos of 1614, Seville mint. Obverse: crowned arms, "S V" to left; reverse: cross potent in a crowned quadrilobe, cantonned with four rings. Rare, very fine.)"

This type is recorded for 1601, 1611-21 with all dates noted as scarce. It is hammered.
