This specimen was lot 504 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 1,100 euro (about US$1,745 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1614. Segovia. AR. 8 reales. 4 flores de lis. Rara. MBC+. (eight reales of 1614, Segovia mint, four fleur-de-lys. Rare, choice very fine.)"
This type, an early machine struck coin of Spain, is recorded in the SCWC for 1610-21. This date is scarce, verging on rare. The arms of Spain on the obverse bear the escutcheon of Portugal, ruled by Spain 1580-1640.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 27.46 g, 0.931 fine silver, .821 troy oz ASW.
