Spain 1611-S B 2 escudos
The first specimen was lot 9 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "Seville, Spain, cob 2 escudos, Philip III, 1611B. Broad-flan XF with bold full S-B, full crown, clear date above full but partially flat cross-and-tressure, a few light (old) scratches, some light red toning." The second specimen was lot 18 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 35 (Winter Park, FL, May 2024), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[2] noted, "SPAIN, Seville, gold cob 2 escudos, 1611 B. Bold full cross and shield with lots of contrasting sediment in crevices, clear S-B to left and denomination II to right, bottom half of 611 of date clear, AU- with minor scrapes and punch-marks." This type was struck at Seville, Madrid, Toledo and Granada 1610-21. A few milled two escudos are known from Segovia.
