from Künker sale 352, lot 2105

This specimen was lot 2105 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €28,000 (about US$38,968 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich August I. 1694-1733 (August der Starke). Dukat 1697, Leipzig. GOLD. RR Kl. Kratzer, vorzüglich. Erworben 1953 bei der Firma Helbing, München. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus I (Augustus the Strong), 1694-1733, ducat of 1697, Leipzig mint. Very rare, minor scratches, extremely fine. Bought from Helbing.)"

This type was struck in Leipzig in 1697 along with a 1½ ducat, half ducat and quarter ducat.
