Saxony 1697 thaler Dav-7654
This specimen was lot 1689 in Jean Elsen sale 117 (Brussels, June 2013), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$2,208 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, SAXE, Friedrich August Ier (1694-1733), AR Taler, 1697, Tir du Carnaval à Dresde (Büchsenschiessen). Droit: Monogramme couronné entre un rameau et une palme, entouré de quatre écussons. Revers: VIRTVTE- PARATA Hercule debout à gauche sur une nuée, tenant sa massue sur l'épaule, couronné par une main sortant d'un nuage. Légère patine. Superbe. (Germany, Saxony, Frederick August I (1694-1733), silver thaler of 1697. for the shooting festival at Dresden. Obverse: crowned monogram between palm branches, four shields around; reverse: standing Hercules to left bearing a club, being crowned by a hand from a cloud. Lightly toned, extremely fine.)"
