Saxony 1697-IK thaler Dav-7652
This specimen was lot 4370 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich August I. 1694-1733 (August der Starke). Reichstaler 1697, Dresden. Hübsche Patina, kl. Kratzer (Einkerbungen) im Rand, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus I, 1694-1733, thaler of 1697, Dresden mint. Handsome patina, scratches on the edge, very fine to extremley fine.)"
This type of 1695-98 is surprisingly rare. The 1697 shooting thaler klippe turns up far more often.
