Saxony 1697 2 ducats Fr-2828
This specimen was lot 6608 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,664 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich August I. 1694-1733 (August der Starke). 2 Dukaten 1697, Leipzig, auf seine Krönung zum König von Polen in Krakau. GOLD. RR Beschnittener Rand, sonst fast vorzüglich. Der beschnittene Rand erklärt das verringerte Gewicht gegenüber einem Doppeldukaten von ca. 6,90 g. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus, 1694-1733, double ducat of 1697, Leipzig mint, on his coronation as king of Poland in Cracow. Rare, clipped but about extremely fine.)"
This type comes in tow varieties: KM 701 (with the king's name spelled out, shown here) and KM 700 (with the king's name as FRID·AUG·). The second is the more expensive.
