Künker sale 439, lot 2498

This specimen was lot 2498 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €7,000 (about US$9,630 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Friedrich August I., 1694-1733 (August der Starke). Dukat 1695, Dresden. Brustbild r. in Kurornat, in der Rechten Schwert, davor Kurhut auf einem Tisch//Gekrönter Löwe steht nach l., in der Rechten Pranke Schwert, die Linke auf den kursächsischen Wappenschild gelegt, unten in der Umschrift die Signatur I - (gekreuzte Pfeile) - K (Johann Koch, Münzmeister in Dresden 1688-1698). GOLD. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Min. gewellt, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (electorate of Saxony, Augustus I, 1694-1733, ducat of 1695, Dresden mint. Obverse: bust right in electoral robe with the electoral cap on a table; reverse crowned lion rampant left, holding a sword in one paw and supporting the capped arms of Saxony, mintmaster's initials below. Very rare in this quality, lightly waved, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1695-97. A similar design was used on a five ducats (Fr-2769), quarter ducat (Fr-2771), half ducat (Fr-2772) and another quarter ducat (Fr-2773).
