Künker sale 353, lot 3803

This specimen was lot 3803 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €280 (about US$390 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 3 Kreuzer 1763, B, Breslau. Prägung während des Siebenjährigen Krieges. RR Leichte Prägeschwäche, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Galerie des Monnaies 25, Düsseldorf 1981, Nr. 270. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, struck during the Seven Years War, three kreuzer of 1763, Breslau mint, struck during the Seven Years War. Very rare, slightly weakly struck, extremely fine.)"

After Frederick the Great seized Silesia in 1742, he issued kreuzer denominated coinage for the province which did not directly convert into the thaler-based coinage used in the rest of the realm. One, three, six, 15 and 18 kreuzer were issued along with one and two groschel pieces. This type was struck in large numbers 1752-56 and 1763. The last three kreuzer was struck in 1786. The year 1763 marks the first year of peace after the near-disastrous Seven Years' War.
