Künker sale 403, lot 1478

This specimen was lot 1478 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €750 (about US$984 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PAPST INNOCENZ XII., 1691-1700. Die Münzstätte Rom. Giulio A II (1692/1693), Rom. Mit dem Wappen des Presidente della zecca, Monsieur Maffeo Farsetti, auf der Rückseite. Feine Tönung, vorzüglich. (Papal States, Innocent XII, 1691-1700, giulio of the year 2, Rome mint, with the mintmaster's arms on the reverse. Fine toning, extremely fine.)"

This giulio, one third of a testone, is fairly common. The reverse motto translates as, "HE WHO SEES YOU RETURNS TO YOU", which we haven't been able to find in the Bible.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.05 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 3,02 g.

Catalog reference: Muntoni 63; Toffanin 2152/1 (R), Ber-2264, KM 553.
