Papal States 1689 giulio KM-490
This specimen was lot 1444 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,443 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PAPST ALEXANDER VIII., 1689-1691. Die Münzstätte Rom. Giulio 1689, Rom, auf die Besitznahme des Laterans. Die Rückseitenumschrift mit SACROS / BASILIC / LATERAN / POSSESS / 1689. Fast vorzüglich. (Papal States, Alexander XIII, 1689-91, giulio of 1689, Rome mint, on taking possesion of St. John Lateran. Reverse legend "SACROS / BASILIC / LATERAN / POSSESS / 1689". about extremely fine.)"
St. John Lateran is the pope's offical seat as bishop of Rome, not St. Peter's as many people think.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.05 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 2,98 g.
