This type was minted in 1689 as a sede vacante issue after the death of Innocent XI. The SCWC lists four different grossi for 1689, one sede vacante (shown here), two honoring the Lateran palace (KM 485 and KM 486) and one for Alexander VII (KM 487). The grosso was five baiocchi, while the piastra, the Italian equivalent of the German thaler, was 105 baiocchi (3½ testone).
