Künker sale 403, lot 1445

This specimen was lot 1445 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €6,000 (about US$7,873 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PAPST ALEXANDER VIII., 1689-1691. Die Münzstätte Rom. Scudo d’oro A I/1690, Rom. Die Apostel St. Petrus und St. Paulus. Mit dem Wappen des Presidente della zecca, Monsieur Giovan Battista Patrizi, auf der Rückseite. GOLD. RR Mehrere kl. Kratzer, sehr schön. (Papal States, Alexander XIII, 1689-91, gold scudo of 1690, Rome mint. Obverse: the apostles Peter and Paul; reverse: mintmaster's arms, Very rare, several small scratches, very fine.)"

This rare coin features a spectacular baroque portrait of saints Peter and Paul.
