Künker sale 354, lot 6031

This specimen was lot 6031 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$3,062 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN, KIRCHENSTAAT/VATIKAN, Innocenz XII. 1691-1700. 1/2 Piastra A II/1692, Rom. Feine Patina, vorzüglich. (Italy, Papal States, Innocent XII, 1691-1700, half piastra of the year 2, Rome mint. Fine patina, extremely fine.)"

This date is listed in the SCWC for 1692 only along with KM 554 and KM 555. It is scarce. mezza piastra was 52½ baiocchi, while the piastra, the Italian equivalent of the German thaler, was 105 baiocchi (3½ testone). The denomination was last minted in 1742 and superseded by the mezzo scudo in 1753.
